Chris Slabber

I grew up in the small South African town of Oudtshoorn at the heart of the Klein Karoo. This was where I gained my love for Surrealism and surrounding genres. I started off studying fine arts from a young age and eventually began too apply this knowledge in a more design like way.

Exhibition Photography Series by Chris Slabber

Eons Exhibition Photography Series by Chris Slabber Eons is a black and white photography series that explores rock and stone textures. The images show a sandstone cliff found during a hike, where the rock has been shaped by the elements over a very long period. Each composition was framed closely so that the rock faces read as abstract works of art. Natural light was used, and strong contrasts of light and shadow replace the yellow tone of the stone. The series is intended for interior decoration and branding, and the prints can be produced in various sizes and finishes.

I am Nesia Exhibition Series by Chris Slabber I am Nesia is a photography series about the effects of the 2020 lockdown on the human spirit. Each image was made by turning the lens focus in the wrong direction, so that landscapes became soft fields of colour that resemble watercolour paintings. A dark figure was then added to each scene as a metaphor for fear and anxiety, and a grain texture completes the compositions. The series is produced as large format light boxes of 1200 by 2000 millimetres. The intent is to record a period of uncertainty and to show that people can adapt and prevail.
